Craig Gardner admits he enjoys playing for Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill.
The midfielder has put to rest rumours he was homesick for a return to the Midlands.
Gardner told the Daily Mail: "'He is a breath of fresh air. His understanding and enthusiasm for the game are unbelievable. It's like he is still playing the game, not just in the changing room but on the touchline.
"I could not expect, after the start I had, to come straight into the team because I am not like that. I believe in you needing to work hard to get in the team and I worked my socks off in training day in, day out and now I am reaping the rewards.""If you ever need any support, all you have to do is look to the touchline and he's there jumping up and down, kicking every ball, fighting your corner.
