MLS Commissioner Don Garber is excited about the prospect of competing with some of the biggest teams in the world.
Recently, several MLS clubs have been enjoying massive attendances as they host huge teams from around Europe and Garber is eyeing the day when the local clubs can match it with outfits like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea.
"It's good for us to see world-class soccer at its best and dream about what it could be at some point, both in this country and in the United States," Garber said after Real Madrid defeated Toronto FC 5-1 on Friday.
"We've never really thought that our teams are competitive with [teams like] Real Madrid or FC Barcelona today, [though] we hope that we will be at some point.
"We bring these teams here because it's important to have our fans see what the sport can be at that level and to give our players games that really test them. As opposed to playing just each other, they play one of the best teams in our sport."
