Japanese club Gamba Osaka has sacked manager Jose Carlos Serrao. The Brazilian tactician, and his coaching staff, have led the club to five straight defeats which has seen the former J-League champions take action.

Serrao was appointed prior to the 2012 season but upon losing all three league matches and both Asian Champions League outings, Gamba have decided to end the tenure, which was the 61-year olds 26th job at a different club.

"The team just didn't take to Serrao's game style, and began the season with this five loss record. We also took into account that the kind of game that represents Gamba Osaka is football with movement, and we were not seeing this," Gamba's president Kikuo Kanamori was quoted in the club's official statement.

Former Gamba forward Masanobu Matsunami, who made 280 appearances for the club, has been brought in as Serrao's replacement and is looking to get things back to normal after a poor run to begin the year.

"I am fully aware of the bad results so far this season and I will work hard to get the team to winning ways. The players, the staff and the fans have a desire to win and I will take that seriously," he said.
