AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani insists the top four is still in their sights.
Defeat to AS Roma left the Rossoneri in seventh place, nine points adrift of Lazio in second and 17 off leaders Juventus.
"We are looking at second position more than third," insisted Galliani. "With a win here we could've closed the gap. I still mourn the points we dropped at home to Atalanta and Sampdoria.
"Oh well, let's look on the bright side. We have a team that plays good football, has good players and can bring talent off the bench too. It's a shame we're paying for that bad start to the season."
