William Gallas says Tottenham must now direct their focus at finishing fourth in the Premier League so they can again compete in the Champions League next season.
Spurs face an uphill battle to stay alive in the competition after losing 4-0 to Real Madrid in the quarter-final first leg in Spain last night and although some people believe they can still turn it around, Gallas is more realistic.
The French defender said after the match that it may be more beneficial to focus on the upcoming league games rather than putting all of their energy into Europe.
"It would be a shame if we don't qualify for next season's Champions League because we worked so hard during this season," he said.
"So maybe now we have to be more focused on the Premier League games."
Spurs are currently placed fifth on the league table ahead of Saturday's clash with Stoke City at White Hart Lane.
