Gallas revelling in Arsenal captaincy role

Arsenal captain William Gallas is happy with his new role at the club - and confident of lifting silverware this season.

Speaking on a live webchat with Arsenal.com yesterday afternoon, Gallas revealed: "When Arsene told me I was to be the captain, I told myself I will try to do my best to try to win some trophies for the club, and to help my team.

"I try to speak with the players when something is wrong and I am very pleased with all the players because they are doing so well.

"All of the young players [have impressed me] because at their age, I did not have that quality."

The French defender paid tribute to the influence of Wenger in his new role as the team's leader.

Gallas said: "The manager gave me a lot of responsibility this year, and I like that. Now, I try to do my best to be a good captain.

"What I like with him is that after the game or before, we can speak together and sometimes I can tell him how I feel about how we play."

Gallas continued: "He does not put any pressure on the players, that is very good for us. We play fantastic football and if we do make a mistake, he will say 'try again' and that is very important for us so we can play in the way we want to play.

"We can beat anybody with the way we play and our quality.

"At the moment, we have the best football in Europe."
