Galekovic named Adelaide United Player of the Year

Eugene Galekovic was last night named as Adelaide United's Player of the Year for the 2009/10 season.

The two-time A-League Goalkeeper of the Year won the Aurelio Vidmar Club Champion award for the second time, adding it to last season's triumph and also was named the Players' Player of the Year.

The shot-stopper, who is chasing a spot in the Australian World Cup squad, was delighted to have won the award, describing it as an honour.

"It's an honour. It's a personal achievement and it's good to be recognised, but in the end you like to play finals football and hopefully next year we can get there and win a few trophies as a team," Galekovic said.

In other Reds' awards news, Fabien Barbiero won the Best Team Man award, Mathew Leckie was voted as the Rising Star, Dane Milovanovic won the National Youth League's Most Valuable Player and Racheal Quigley was the W-League's MVP.
