Former West Ham United defender Tony Gale says the owners need to make a decision over manager Sam Allardyce.
Gale, still a regular face at Upton Park, also believes the club are facing a 'shaky time ahead' of them.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: "They look like they are forcing Sam's hand. When you appoint someone you either sack him or you back him.
"You don't start saying things in public, saying you're going to do this and you want him to do this or he's not signed this player but we want this player to sign. It's all to the detriment of the cause for me.
"We're going into the start of the season with a little bit of a shaky time ahead. If they want Sam they have got to back him. If they don't want him, they've got to sack him - simple as that."
