Republic of Ireland interim boss Noel King has rejected LA Galaxy's request to release Robbie Keane from the squad for Tuesday's game with Kazakhstan, reports BBC Sport. Galaxy manager Bruce Arena wanted the striker released from the squad after Friday's qualifier against Germany.

The Republic have only a mathematical chance of making the play-offs.

The Football Association of Ireland said King "trusts that he [Arena] understands the position, having been an international manager himself".
