Gabriel Jesus plays down Man City transfer as reason for Brazil Olympic shortcomings

Gabriel Jesus has refuted claims that his move to Manchester City has affected his performances for Brazil at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Brazil have endured a terrible time at the Olympics so far after drawing 0-0 against South Africa and Iraq, and one of the major underperformers for the Selecao in the competition so far has been promising striker Jesus.

There has been suggestions that Jesus has not been able to produce his best in Rio so far as he is currently distracted by his recent move to City from Palmeiras but the 19-year-old has gone on to emphatically refute such claims.

Jesus was quoted saying by the Manchester Evening News: "No, the move to Manchester City has nothing to do with it.

"When I was in Palmeiras I was asked that question, too. I'm not scoring goals because I am not scoring goals. Some days we don't play to our best.

"We are creating chances, I even had two chances. There were three others who had some, we are making them, just missing them. That is important, of course, but we are playing well."
