One of Cristian Chivu's agents admits the Roma defender's future remains clouded.

"I don't know if the transfer to Inter will happen. The only certain thing right now is that Cristian will turn up at Trigoria for pre-season training with Roma," said Joan Becali on Rete Sport.

"I have never actually met Massimo Moratti. I only spoke to him on the phone and he said if we did not reach an extension agreement with Roma, he would have given my client a very high wage deal of around £3.7m.

"I did not talk to Roma about this call, because the Nerazzurri President assured me he would have contacted the club directly."

Meanwhile, Chivu has joked about the hostile climate that awaits him on his return from summer holidays in Romania.

"I will arrive at Trigoria without bodyguards," he smiled. "Football is a sport ruled by fair play."
