Fuming Juventus chiefs target Real Madrid pair to right wrongs

Juventus are planning an overhaul of their midfield this summer.

Juve GM Beppe Marotta confessed last night that the team "lacks character and balance" after the draw with Chievo.

"Now we will make changes," he assured angry fans.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Juve intend to put things right by shopping in Spain - and at Real Madrid.

Real midfield pair Xabi Alonso and Lassana Diarra are their top targets, with Juve willing to offer Momo Sissoko and Felipe Melo in exchange.

Juve also have tabled a contract offer to AC Milan Bosman prospect Andrea Pirlo and are waiting on his response.

I completely agree with you with regards to the Alonso fiasco in 2008. To this day it still really annoys and amazes me that instead of buying a class act like Xabi Alonso, who had publicaly stated that he wanted to join and play with Del Piero and Nedved, we instead bought the Danish disaster Christian Poulsen. We finished 2nd that season and I am convinced that if we have had Alonso, instead of the worst player I have ever seen in a Bianconeri shirt, we could have won the title. To make matters worst, 12 months later he was sold to Madrid for £30m when we had agreed a fee of £12m. Ranieri signed his own death warrant that day and I believe cost us our chance to win our 30th Scudetto.

Juventus struggle because of the player's quality or lack of it. Get two of Bale, Criscito, Gregory van der Wiel or Beck, one of Afelley or Bastos and one of Aguero, Benzema or Neymar. Or face another year of humilation and lack of CL money.
