"He's an absolute legend," Davies told fulhamfc.com. "I think he's now one of the most decorated players in the English league and he's fighting for another trophy. He's an unbelievable player and was one of my heroes when I was younger, so to get the chance to play with him was a fantastic honour. For him to still be playing says everything about him.
"I remember he used to have a lot of problems with his hamstrings but he got over that and at 34 he's still quicker and fitter than most in the league. He's an unbelievable athlete and a great footballer to go with it. When he used to come away with Wales he was just a normal guy, one of us. As Captain he would bring us together and it was an honour for everyone to play with him.
"You can't even replace him. It wasn't one of those situations where you say ‘who do we replace him with?' everyone just had to up their game 10% to try and make up for it. It's always great to meet up and play against him in the League."
