Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy is winning big praise from his new Republic of Ireland teammates.

McCarthy made his Republic of Ireland debut in this week's friendly defeat to Brazil.

Fulham star Damian Duff singled out McCarthy for praise. He said: "He seems like a great prospect.

"Since coming to the Premier League he's done really well, especially for a kid so young. It's a massive step-up joining the full international set-up but he's handled it no bother."
