Fulham strker Nevland surprised by Liverpool lack of quality

Fulham hero Erik Nevland was stunned by the lack of quality in Liverpool's performance on Saturday.

The Norwegian striker turned in a Man-of-the-Match show as a second-half sub, netting Fulham's second and setting up Clint Dempsey for their third.

He said: "It is hard for me to analyse Liverpool's performance but you probably would expect a bit more. I didn't see the win over Manchester United so I don't know how well they played. We knew we were in for a tough game and we were at them from the start and that proved vital.

"They weren't scaring the life out of us. We had the game under control. They probably didn't show the quality but you know that they have it."

Liverpool's beleaguered boss Rafa Benitez claimed the Reds side were by far the better side.

But Nevland disagreed: "In the second-half I think we were the better team. It was great when we got to 3-1.

"It was a good performance. It's not easy for teams here."
