Fulham skipper McBride urges teammates not to relax

Fulham captain Brian McBride has warned teammates they're not safe, despite getting out of the bottom three this week.

"It has been a great turnaround," said McBride. "It was always going to be emotional on Saturday as it was a very important game for both teams. We've worked so hard to make sure we maintain the right focus and right attitude going into our games.

"The manager has kept us focused and we went about our business in the same way. We focus on the game itself and not worry about the position because going into a game you can't be worrying about where you're at. As you can expect the atmosphere in the dressing room was very good after the game but we're not under any illusions that this is over. We still have a job to do and it's going to be a tough one.

"Our confidence has grown for sure and you can see that with our composure. It's going to be a very difficult game on Sunday and I don't think any team in this league looks past the next game. They (Portsmouth) have great support there and they'll want to do well.

"Our fans were incredible on Saturday and they have been since we've been in this position. They've been extremely vocal and extremely supportive and it makes a big difference. Last weekend when we were 2-0 down against Manchester City we came out at half-time and they were still belting away - that can only do good things to you as a player.

"You play this game for the enjoyment and for the passion and you can see that in our players and supporters. The support has been great and our fans will play a huge part on Sunday and one we are grateful for."

Fulham chairman Mohamed Al Fayed paid his team a visit prior to Saturday's kick-off against City and McBride revealed that he has been an inspirational figurehead during their fight for survival.

"It was a great gesture when the chairman came in before the game," said McBride. "He's had a great influence on us. He's come in and showed his great desire for this club and it's been impressive to see him come in and try and help us keep going."
