Fulham are set to miss out on Chris Hughton.
The Sunday Mirror says Birmingham City's acting chairman Peter Pannu will advise owner Carson Yeung to appoint former Newcastle United boss Hughton.
Hughton, who has ruled out a move to Fulham as Martin Jol's number two, is also the supporters' first choice to succeed Alex McLeish at St Andrews after he terminated his contract and took over Midlands' rivals Aston Villa.
Local and on-line polls have Hughton way ahead of his competitors for the post.
