Fulham's Hughes determined to snag PSV's Salcido

Fulham boss Mark Hughes is desperate to tie up a deal for PSV Eindhoven defender Carlos Salcido.

The 30-year old Mexico international has been linked with the Cottagers for a few weeks now and after the two clubs agreed a fee, Hughes wants the deal to be completed as soon as possible.

"We have made enquiries," said Hughes. "He is a player I am interested in and we are hopeful it might be concluded."

Hughes said the fact Salcido was close to landing at Craven Cottage did not necessarily mean that left-back Paul Konchesky, who has attracted interest from Liverpool, would be on his way out.

"We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left back is a position we are a little light in," added Hughes.

"It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in."
