Fulham plan to hand Hangeland new terms before January market

Fulham are moving to upgrade Brede Hangeland's contract.

The People says Arsenal showed renewed interest in the 6ft 4in centre-back in their rush to sign players before last month's transfer deadline, but opted for German Per Mertesacker instead.

And West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson, who took Hangeland to Fulham in 2008, would love to sign the Norway skipper again.

New Fulham chief Martin Jol has admitted Fulham are allowing many players to go into the final year of their contracts before negotiating new deals, in a bid to 'keep them hungry'.

But they will make an exception for key defender Hangeland, 30, whose agreement expires in the summer of 2013.
