Fulham new boy Williams: 'I jumped at the chance to join'

Ryan Williams admits that he jumped at the chance to join Fulham.

The 18-year old Australian winger left Portsmouth to sign with the Cottagers on transfer deadline day in late January and says it was an easy decision to make after performing well in a trial match for the West Londoners.

"I think it was exactly a week before transfer deadline day when my agent said Fulham were interested," the younger brother of Middlesbrough star Rhys told Fulham's official website.

"It came closer to the final day [of the month] and they asked me to play a game so I gave it a go. I played and played well so then Fulham wanted to sign me and I was really happy.

"I jumped at the chance to play for Fulham. They're a Premier League club and the opportunity to play at this level doesn't come around very often.

I know that I've got to keep my feet on the ground and just play as many games as possible and work hard. Hopefully then the rest will come. It's a good group within the Reserves and I'm just itching to play as much as possible."
