Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli believes that Manchester City had left Fulham too tired for the side to mount a comeback
City secured a comfortable 3-0 win against the Londoners, having scored within the first two minutes through Leroy Sane.
And Bettinelli believes that conceding early completely threw out any plans Fulham had set for the game.
City ran away with it in the end, with Fulham looking unlikely to threaten at any point.
"They're a fantastic side," said the goalkeeper to the Evening Standard.
"They did what they did last year for a reason.
"Our game-plan was to try to keep them quiet for the first 20 minutes. It didn't work.
"We made a mistake early on and got punished. That's what happens when you play against teams like this.
"I don't think we backed ourselves enough to get forward and create chances.
"You spend a lot of time defending against teams like this and when you get the ball you are knackered. So we kept it down to three, but we didn't just come to keep the score down."
