Fulham downed by Juventus in Europa League

Fulham face an uphill battle to remain alive in the Europe League after being beaten 3-1 by Juventus in Turin.

The Cottagers' night started poorly when Nicola Legrottaglie beat Mark Schwarzer in just the 9th minute with a powerful header before Jonathan Zebina doubled the Old Lady's lead 16 minutes later when he cut in off the right flank and hit an 18-yard shot off the upright and into the back of the net.

The visitors managed to claw their way back into the contest in the 36th minute when Dickson Etuhu slotted home from close range after a free-kick from Simon Davies was not cleared by the Juve defence.

However, the match was seemingly out of Roy Hodgson's teams reach when David Trezeguet followed up his first shot that hit the woodwork and made it 3-1 in stoppage time of the first half.

Fulham had a few slight chances in the second term but could not break down a determined Juventus defence and will need to perform well at Craven Cottage in the return leg to book a place in the quarter finals.
