Hughes told fulhamfc.com: "He's done really well in training and it's good the manager threw him on for 15 minutes to give him a feel for it. He's been one of the most improved players this year who haven't been on the pitch. His fifteen minutes against Everton were well deserved. Hopefully he won't do too well too soon because he'll be kicking me out of a spot!
"It's good that if we do need a bit of depth in Europe next season we've got people like Chris Smalling, Chris Baird and Toni Kallio - all guys that can slot in and do a good job. He's big and strong and he's great at blocking shots. His improvement has come from his decision making. He's a lot more confident in training."
