Fulham boss Meulensteen big fan of Everton's Martinez

Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen is a big fan of Everton counterpart Roberto Martinez.

The Dutchman takes Fulham to Goodison Park on Saturday and has observed the change in style since David Moyes left to take over at Manchester United.

"They are more free-flowing, that comes from the manager," Meulensteen said.

"In many ways you see the team through the eyes of the manager. Roberto is a manager who wants the team to play football based on possession, based on flooding people forward, based on pace. You see that. It's a different challenge to overcome.

"I know Roberto really well, we've discussed football going back as far as when he was still the manager at Swansea. But what I like about Roberto is when he had four years at Wigan and endured some tough times.

"Every week I always respected the way he handled himself in the media, and always stuck true to his principles, no matter how tough it was going to get. Fantastic.

"My style is a mixture of where I come from, in Holland, based on good possessional play but with an attacking intent.

"I have spent many times working alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and it wasn't any different so hopefully in time to come I can blend that style into the Fulham team."
