Fulham boss Jol eager to tie down hat-trick hero Pogrebnyak

Fulham boss Martin Jol admits they need to sort out a deal for Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The Russian hit a hat-trick in victory over Wolves.

"In January you will never get the £10million player because nobody will sell them," the Dutchman said. "They will keep their best players and I was aware of the situation. The last match he played for Stuttgart they lost so I thought maybe the timing was good to try and get him.

"Years ago I went over to try and get him in Germany (while at Hamburg), but he made the decision to go to Stuttgart.

"We can't say that he had the best of times there, but there are four or five strikers there.

"If you score it is fine, if you don't score you're out the next game. That is probably a different feeling for him. He knows he will play for us and we promised him he will get his games.

"He is a very good lad. The first training session he gave us a feeling that he wanted to be here, that he wanted to prove a point.

"That is always good so I can't say what I did after his first game, where I said 'one swallow doesn't make a summer'.

"After five goals in the three games, I have to say he is a pretty good signing for us."
