Fulham boss Martin Jol insists he feels no threat from the presence of new assistant coach Rene Meulensteen.
Many see the Dutchman as Jol's eventual successor.
Jol said: "I spoke to him in the summer because Manchester United wanted to change their staff, but he decided to go to Anzhi (Makhachkala).
"Then we had a very good discussion with him when he left Anzhi (in August) but he went to Qatar. Before he signed I texted him again, just before we played Manchester United (on November 2), and he texted back.
"It was a coincidence because he said he wanted to come back to England. That was very surprising and I was very satisfied with that."
He added: "You can always speculate on things. For me that is not an issue. I know him well, for at least 25 years. He is a very good trainer and coach. He was not a manager before so I think his qualities are on the pitch in the week."
