Questions have continuously been asked about Torres's form since his £50million move from Liverpool last year.
But Jol said: "If Rafa Benitez will get it out of him, and he's the man who should be able get the confidence in the boy again and, if he does that I think he will score goals, because he always could score goals.
"I feel that he knows him so that will give him a lot of confidence, and players live by confidence.
"You have to look at the stats, you have to look at his fitness, you have to look at his past performances and if you look at the goals he scored, for example at Liverpool, you can only come to the conclusion that there are a lot of goals in him so I think it has a lot to do with confidence.
"I don't want to talk about it because I always have that little fear it will start against Chelsea, so please forgive me."
