Fulham boss Martin Jol backed the message Dimitar Berbatov sent to teammates during their 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Berbatov was shown a yellow card after whipping off his shirt to reveal a T-shirt with the message 'Keep calm and pass me the ball' when he scored.

Jol admitted his players should pay more attention after letting Southampton back into the game.

"It wasn't the brightest thing to do but he wanted to make a statement," said the Dutchman. "He's telling us every day to play with confidence and to keep the ball.

"He was right today because you need to show that to play your football and our performance was not good enough.

"He was right, you have to play with confidence. I'm disappointed that we didn't take the three points, but I would have been more disappointed if we had played well and not won."
