Fulham boss hopeful over Hangeland talks

Roy Hodgson is confident Brede Hangeland will sign a new contract with Fulham in the near future. Hodgson has confirmed talks are on-going and that both parties are close to agreeing a new and improved contract.

"[Hangeland's extension] was going on long before the transfer window," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.

"I think during the transfer window his agent decided to put that discussion on hold to see if he could find him a club for him that would pay him a lot more money, but now the agent is very anxious to start the talks up again.

"We hope he will sign a new contract. We know he's happy here.

"He himself has never shown any signs of wanting to leave, but of course he would like to be rewarded for the work he's done here with a new contract. We're very much in line with him in his thinking."

When asked if Hodgson thought Hangeland would be signing, he replied: "I would think so.

"If you want to know the exact state of play you'll have to discuss with [CEO] Alistair McIntosh who is the one of course who has the discussions regularly with the player's agent.

"The player and I, we don't talk about it. We talk about the daily business of football."
