Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was thrilled with the winning debut of Nicky Shorey in their victory over Portsmouth last night.

Shorey signed for the Cottagers on-loan from Aston Villa on Monday.

"He [Shorey] was outstanding," Hodgson told fulhamfc.com. "He's a very good player and there wasn't much doubt about Nicky Shorey because we know what a good player he is.

"We know what an accomplished Premier League player he is. It was just a case of him solving the problem we've had at left back since Paul Konchesky got injured at Blackburn."
