Fulham boss Hodgson delighted for Davies success at Bolton

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is delighted by Kevin Davies' success at Bolton Wanderers - because it proves he was right in signing him.

Hodgson admits striker Davies was a £7.5million flop after he signed him for Blackburn in July 1998.

Davies, 32, has rebuilt his reputation with Wanderers and is set to meet his old manager at Craven Cottage today.

Hodgson said: "Unfortunately, he didn't succeed for me. We didn't get any real benefit from him and he didn't succeed at one or two other clubs afterwards.

"But Sam Allardyce gave him a lifeline when his career was definitely going in the wrong direction and he grabbed that lifeline with both hands.

"For the last five or six years he's been a fantastic servant for Bolton.

"I'm pleased to see I'm not totally incompetent when looking at forward players. I'm pleased he succeeded - even if he didn't help me.

"He certainly put that behind him and now he's a player most teams would love to have."
