Sunderland face a battle convincing Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker to move north.

The London Evening Standard says Parker has been told he can leave Tottenham as boss Andre Villas-Boas attempts to strengthen his midfield.

Sunderland have registered an interest in the England player but it is believed that Parker would prefer to remain in London.

Fulham are also monitoring the situation and hope QPR boss Harry Redknapp's involvement will not prove a decisive factor in Parker's thinking.
