Fulham academy chief Huw Jennings believes the battle for English youth talent is about to become even more intense.
Each club must name a 25-player squad of which at least eight must be 'home-grown' (players of any nationality, who have spent three seasons or 36 months with an English or Welsh club prior to turning 21). Having a good academy will increasingly have a direct impact on a club's ability to compete in the league.
"People are waking up to the fact that this is going to have a huge effect on them," said Fulham Academy director Jennings to the Sunday Telegraph.
"With the home-grown rule, a bubble has been created and, when players turn 21, clubs are going to have to make difficult decisions about having to let players go - which is tricky when many players are on long-term contracts.
"Young players in the English system will become even more expensive and we will see an intensification of what is already a competitive market."
