FSV Frankfurt's Leckie ready to fill Socceroos midfield void

Mathew Leckie says he is prepared to step into the midfield vacancy in the Australian national team.

With Al Nasr's Brett Holman and now FC Sion's Dario Vidosic succumbing to injuries, an attacking midfield spot has opened up and FSV Frankfurt's Leckie is determined to take it when the Socceroos meet France on Friday (Saturday morning AEDT).

"I am definitely ready if I get the chance," said Leckie who has scored six goals in 11 outings for FSV this season.

"I am playing regularly for my club, I have the confidence and the coach's support at my club but it's a matter of putting it together for the whole season.

"If the chance to play behind the main striker comes up against France then I'd love to take it … that's my role at Frankfurt at the moment, so it wouldn't be foreign to me.

"I can turn with the ball with no defenders on me or come from deeper and get in behind for a through ball - but it's the boss (Holger Osieck's) decision.

"He is obviously looking at players to show themselves and there are opportunities to be had. It's just a matter of me trying to show my qualities as best I can."
