From Moscow to Saint Petersburg - World Cup 2018: Day Eight

Over the next month, I'll be covering the World Cup for Tribalfootball. And along the way, I'd like to share with you some of my experiences and keep you up to date with all the action!

Leningrad

Yesterday I made the trip to the city formerly known as Leningrad. Saint Petersburg is Russia's second biggest city with over a population of over five million. And for over 200 years it was the country's capital city.

The history of Saint Petersburg has been well documented. It has endured some of the world's most famous battles, sieges and revolutions. Known as the cultural centre, it is home to countless museums, galleries, theatre halls, concert venues, bars, restaurants and plenty of football fans.

Fan Fest

Each host city has created an area where fans can eat, drink, listen to live music and watch the football. With a city as beautiful as Saint Petersburg, it was only fitting that the city's 'Fan Fest' was located directly next to the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood.

Unfortunately Australia couldn't come away with the win yesterday against Denmark. Bert van Marwijk's men controlled the game, however, a draw does leave them with a chance to qualify for the knockout stages. The same can't be said for Argentina, whose emphatic loss to Croatia last night means they will need to rely on other results to progress.

Selecao

Today I'll be attending Brazil vs. Costa Rica at Saint Petersburg Stadium. The Selecao need to win after faltering with a draw against Switzerland in the opening game. Tite's men are my pick for the tournament so I'm hoping they don't make me out for a fool by getting knocked out at the group stage. A loss for Costa Rica would end their tournament with one game to spare.

Our second game pits Nigeria against Iceland in Volgograd. And after Argentina's loss last night, second place is up for grabs for both of these teams. Lastly, Serbia can extend their gap at the top of Group E with a win over Switzerland in Kaliningrad.
