Toronto FC captain Torsten Frings will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The German midfielder will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his hip which will force him out of action for the rest of the 2012 MLS campaign.
Frings has been troubled by the hip for a little while and with the Reds sitting at the bottom of the table, the club thought it a good time to get the veteran fit and firing for next season.
It has been a frustrating season for the former Werder Bremen, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich man who has appeared 20 times but has missed matches because of hamstring and shoulder injuries.
