Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel insists they're capable of cracking the top four this season.
"It would be refreshing to see a new club in there," he told The Sun.
"With the exception of the fans of the top four clubs, other supporters would like to see a new team.
"Each year, it is getting more difficult to do that but it is a great challenge. Everton are the most recent team to break into the top four so it can be done. But it takes a lot of hard work, very good performances and a lot of luck.
"I am not surprised by our start but I am pleased. Most clubs who finish in the top 10 go into the next season with high expectations and we were no different.
"We are under no illusions. We are not going to get carried away. It won't always be rosy.
"There will be times when we have to pick ourselves up. We have already done that."
Friedel is enjoying playing for O'Neill. The American, who has set up his own soccer academy back home, added: "Every manager is different.
"He brings the best out of everyone.
"I have never played against one of his teams and seen our team outplay them. You can win games on skill but you also win games with spirit."
