Newcastle United have missed out on Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse.

Cisse's prospective move to Newcastle has fallen through and he is now set to remain with Freiburg, according to the German club's director of sport Dirk Dufner.

"The issue has been dealt with," said Dufner after negotiations with Newcastle broke down.

"He is a very special lad and we are fortunate that he is with us.

"We want to enjoy this fortune for a little while longer."
