Freedman puts value on Palace clean sheets

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman is determined to build a successful side beginning with a solid defence. Chris Martin's goal in the 1-1 draw against Derby on Friday night was the first time the Eagles had found the net in precisely 500 minutes of league football.

But Palace have let in just seven goals in their last 11 matches - and three of those came in one defeat at Leicester.

"We work very hard defensively, for me that is the name of the game, if I can get clean sheets," said Freedman.

"I played the game for 20 years, I understand if you create opportunities you score goals and we are creating opportunities in most matches.

"We will score goals, there is no doubt about it. There is too much technical ability not to. But keeping that back door closed as much as we can will be the key to our success."
