Free Premiership football for Thailand
Bangkok Media and Broadcasting, the operator behind the PPTV HD television channel, has agreed a deal to show Barclays' Premier League matches in Thailand, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
Cable Thai Holding (CTH), a pay-TV operator, holds the full broadcast rights to the Premier League in Thailand, but typically negotiates limited free-to-air deals with other broadcasters. 26 games from English soccer's top division will now be shown on the free-to-air PPTV channel in the 2015/16 season.
Financial details have not been officially announced, though Kematat Paladesh, president of Bangkok Media and Broadcasting, hinted that the deal is not significantly different to the one CTH struck with the previous broadcaster Bangkok Entertainment Company, thought to be in the region of THB200 million (US$5 million).
"Sport content is among the key strategies of PPTV for the remaining months [of 2015] and next year in a bid to expand its audience base," Kematat said.
