Fred's not enough! Man Utd plan second midfield signing after signing Shakhtar star

Manchester United want a second midfielder once they wrap up a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk ace Fred.

The Manchester Evening News says United are considering signing a box-to-box midfielder as they prepare to lose Marouane Fellaini.

United are close to completing a deal for Shakhtar defensive midfielder Fred and are intent on making an attack-minded addition to their midfield if Fellaini leaves in the summer.

United admire Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini and Nice's Jean-Michael Seri as options to energise their midfield but believe Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is too expensive.

The 23-year-old Serbia international is contracted to Lazio until 2022 and the Italian club value Milinkovic-Savic at over €100million. United also watched Napoli midfielder Jorginho but he is expected to join Manchester City.
