Franco opts for one year West Ham deal

Mexico striker Guillermo Franco has reportedly agreed a 12-month deal with West Ham after turning down a two-year deal at Upton Park. "The contract is until June even though in principle West Ham wanted it to be a two-year contract," the 32-year-old said before flying to England.

"We wanted it only to be a year. Then we will see, above all because the World Cup is coming up and we hope to qualify.

"After the World Cup we will see what will happen."

Franco is also against the idea of upsetting his family if they do not settle in England.

"I also decided that it would only be one year because as a family we will see if we adapt, if we like it and if it turns out as we are thinking or not," he added.

"So the most logical option was to sign until June and that's what we've sorted out with West Ham.

"I'm happy because I'm going to an English team and I believe that is a good opportunity for me."
