France coach Blanc: England can win Euros

France coach Laurent Blanc feels England can win the Euros after their opening 1-1 draw.

Former Manchester United defender Blanc concedes England could end up leaving Eastern Europe as champions if they keep parking the bus.

Blanc, whose side face Ukraine on Friday, said: "In sport, in football, you can win games this way.

"Greece won Euro 2004 by playing collectively and having a defensive rigour and with Angelos Charisteas scoring a lot of goals. You can win a tournament this way.

"If the French fans are disappointed with the way the French played and say we lacked ambition... well, if the French lacked ambition, what should we say about the English team then?

"We will keep on playing our way. We won't change our philosophy, like I don't think the English will.

"In football, the team that defends the most can win. It doesn't happen in other sports. It's never easy against England because they're so good in the air, especially the likes of Joleon Lescott and John Terry.

"So, the England team didn't surprise us. We knew they would play this way, we knew they are good on the break. We controlled the game for 70 minutes. England had 20 minutes in their favour.

"They were missing a key player in Wayne Rooney and they won't have him for the second game. For the beauty of football it's better to watch an open game than a closed game."
