Fox Sports secures Facebook Live Champions League coverage

Fox Sports in the US is to stream Uefa Champions League matches via Facebook Live during the 2017/18 season, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

The network announced on Tuesday that match coverage will be provided for viewers across the US on the Fox Sports Facebook page, with Spanish-language coverage streamed via the Fox Deportes page.

The partnership, which Fox has described as 'first of its kind', will see two live matches streamed per match day in the group stage, four round of 16 matches and four quarter-final matches.

Some matches will be exclusive to Facebook and Fox Sports Go, the network's mobile streaming service, while others will be simulcast on television.

Fox Sports acquired the US rights to European soccer's elite club competition for the three-year cycle from 2015 to 2018 in December 2013.

"Facebook is a social media powerhouse and a great partner to help us grow soccer in the United States," said David Nathanson, the head of business operations at Fox Sports.

"As people spend more and more time on mobile devices and social networks, offering matches on this platform is a natural extension."
