Fowler insists Liverpool defending not that 'bad': Chelsea were lucky

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler insists Jurgen Klopp's team deserves credit for their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Fowler argued in his column for the Mirror: "You know that old saying about giving a dog a bad name? Well, that's Liverpool's defence at the moment.

"Actually, there's a joke that is probably more appropriate, but not in a family newspaper.

"That's the only thing we should be saying is X-rated though, because yet again at Anfield the Reds' defence was far better than the reaction afterwards would suggest.

"It was only through a fluke that a fine Chelsea attack scored. Don't get me wrong, they were excellent and certainly deserved their equaliser, but not in that way.

"That's the problem Jurgen Klopp has at the moment, once you get a bad name for something then it tends to stick.

"Yes, my former club did have a big problem at the start of the season, but they got stuck into it and largely sorted it out. The problem now is, when you do throw in a bad one, no matter how infrequently, then the finger pointing starts. They hardly covered themselves in glory in Sevilla, but those things do occasionally happen, especially when sides get into a momentum in front of an incredible crowd like that."
