Four Iranian national team footballers have been banned for life.

The quartet wore green armbands during last Thursday's match against South Korea in protest against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election.

Recent reports have suggested that Ali Karimi, Mehdi Mahdavikia, Hosein Ka'abi and Vahid Hashemian were being 'retired' from the national team because of their gestures.
