West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster was delighted for manager Pepe Mel after victory over Swansea City.

The relieved Spaniard, 51, was on the pitch at full-time hugging all his players. He saved the biggest one for Foster, who made several crucial saves as Albion got the win to persuade owner Jeremy Peace not to fire Mel.

Foster said: “That is probably the last thing we need, to be honest with you. Everybody really respects him and how he is as a person. We just needed to get that first win for him.

“To come out in the second half and do what we did shows what fight we have got in that dressing room.

“Pepe is absolutely buzzing. You can see it on his face. He has a smile from ear to ear. It is brilliant. You can see the passion in him. We are very happy that he has got that smile. It means a lot to him, it really does.

“We have nine games left and it is a big result to take into those games. It is a real sweet one.”
