Foster always confident Chelsea would not score

Birmingham City keeper Ben Foster, who was outstanding in his side's 1-0 win over champions Chelsea on Saturday, has revealed he felt invincible against the Blues. "I probably haven't been put under that much pressure before," Foster told the club's official website.

"It was a major backs-to-the-wall job and the second half especially it was kind of an onslaught. We realised the situation and they knew the score as well.

"They were attacking and we were defending - it's as simple as that, and we just managed to keep them out.

"I actually had that kind of feeling where I didn't think anybody was going to beat me. I felt anytime they were going to whip the ball into the box I was either going to come and punch it or claim it or they're going to have a header and I'd save it.

"I really couldn't see them scoring.

"It was a great result to get a clean sheet because the pressure was unbelievable.

"I'd like to see the stats, but at the end of the day it's about putting the ball in the back of the net. We did it and they didn't."

Foster was also keen to attribute his good form to the defensive unit in front of him, and their never-say-die attitudes.

"You saw last season the way the lads did it and the amount of clean sheets they kept, that's exactly the kind of stuff they can do," continued Foster.

"Roger Johnson, Scotty Dann, Liam Ridgewell and Stephen Carr are just great players to have in front of you.

"They are the kind of players that are proper defenders.

"They are not these 'Fancy Dan' players when you don't know what you are going to get.

"You know they are going to be there 100 per cent of the time sticking their heads on it, going into crunching tackles.

"All the time the lads are coming off the pitch with bruises and heads wrapped up and things like that and it's just nice to have lads like that in front of you."
