Forster getting closer to Southampton return

Fraser Forster continues to work his way back to full fitness from the knee injury that has kept him out since March.

The Southampton goalkeeper is back in light work with the squad and is expected to be playing in the New Year after initial reports indicated he would be out for 12 months.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman revealed on Thursday that former Celtic star Forster had joined the group for keeping duties but stopped short of giving a return date for the 27-year-old.

"Fraser is back in some sessions last week but needs still more time to be ready," he said.

"He did some parts of the sessions with the rest of the goalkeepers."

It has been tentatively set that Forster could be back in action for the south coast club in January.
