Former Wycombe Wanders defender Sandell trials with Chicago Fire

Chippenham Town's Andy Sandell spent last weekend trialling at Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire, reports This is Wiltshire. The 28-year-old former Wycombe Wanderers man is looking to re-launch his career in the professional game next year and was one of 22 players to make it to the final round of the Fire's open try-outs.

"When I went along, I didn't realise that it was open trials to start with and to be honest, I've seen better Sunday League players than some of the ones I saw on the first day but it got a lot better after that," said Sandell.

"There were three or four who looked good enough to play in League One or League Two and I thought I was one of the best players there. I've just got to wait and hear back in the next few weeks now.

"I'm hoping to get invited back to do pre-season with another team out there but I'm really umm-ing and ahh-ing because there's a lot to think about.

"Their pre-season goes all the way through to March and obviously, if I'm out there, I'm not getting paid over here and that would make things hard for my family.

"But it's still something that I really want to do and my heart is saying 'go for it' so it's something I've just got to sleep on at the minute."
